Villa of Hope is looking for an Assistant Principal to join our team!

Job Description: The Assistant Principal will   provide oversight to the Villa of Hope Schools.   This person will have assigned   responsibilities including, but not limited, to improving curriculum,   supervision of staff and management of student discipline.  Under the general direction of the Director   of Education carries out all job responsibilities with fidelity and   accountability to the Agency’s Mission, Vision, Values, Guiding Principles   and Strategic Plan.


  • Coordinates the multi-disciplinary team to develop, implement, and assure complete, consistent service delivery for each   student and family 
  • Provides a framework for enforcement of rules, guidelines, policies and procedures within the school
  • Exercises full compliance with the Agency’s Code of Conduct, all Agency policies and procedures and Federal and State laws and regulations 
  • Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students for the purpose of assisting students to modifying behaviors   and developing appropriate coping skills 
  • Works in partnership with Director of   Education to manage a variety of functions including school disciplinary   policies, school schedules and assignment of personnel as needed to promote a   safe and efficient school operation
  • Fulfills school administrator tasks in the   absence of the Director of Education
  • Recommends hiring, termination and all other personnel actions for the Villa of Hope Schools 
  • Maintains current knowledge in special education field
  • Knowledge of special education law (part 200)
  • Ability to serve as a CSE chairperson (Committee on Special Education)
  • Develops and maintains acceptable standards of professional practice for the disciplines of social work, teaching,   psychology, psychiatry, medical and behavior management within the program, coordinating the effectiveness of the multi-disciplinary teams, and providing   continuous quality evaluation and improvements of the same
  • Implements appropriate curriculum outlines consistent with NYS standards, curriculum and best practices in concert with the   Educational Diagnostician
  • Obtains and maintains knowledge of public school courses and course requirements in order to assist in students’ transition   planning
  • Plans, coordinates and participates in-service training for the Villa of Hope Schools
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with campus and community agencies
  • Demonstrates, promotes and practices cultural sensitivity towards students and staff through respect and understanding achieved through training and Agency cultural activities
  • Knowledge and certification of the Dignity Act
  • Assists with admissions for all students to the Villa of   Hope Schools
  •  Represents the Villa of Hope Schools in all inter-agency and local school districts interactions
  • Conducts FBAs and leads development and implementation of BIPs in coordination with the multidisciplinary team
  • In conjunction with the Director of Education verifies and approves purchase orders
  • Participates in management and department meetings regularly
  • Assist with collecting and reporting data for state reporting as directed by the Director of Education
  • In collaboration with Agency staff assisting with grant opportunities
  • Ensures that current plans of students are appropriate to   their social, emotional, and educational needs, maintaining an awareness of the impact that relationships and activities may have on planned objectives, and reporting such observations to the treatment team
  • Coordinates and directs the staff meetings and planning and review conferences
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate contacts in the field to ensure reliable and current information
  • In conjunction with the Director of Education   manages the operations of the Villa of Hope Schools program, including direct   and indirect services to students, staff and their families
  • Ensures written and verbal communication within the organization is clear and effective, relative to policy and procedures
  • Provides supervision to staff as directed by the Director of Education
  • Collaborates with administrative staff for oversight of   PBIS/MTSS process within the Villa of Hope Schools
Job Qualifications


EDUCATION: Master’s degree in any of the following areas teacher, social worker, or school counselor and NYS certification in School Administration (SBL or SDL.)     

EXPERIENCE: Minimum  five years’ experience in an educational setting.  Administrative experience preferred.           

SKILLS: Self-motivated, strong verbal and writing skills, attention to detail, problem-solving, flexible and adaptable.            

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Good working knowledge of NYS laws and regulations for Special Education. Cornell Therapeutic Crisis Interventionist Trainer Certification (TCI).
